Scan pattern visual overlap
Visual coverage depends on:
- separation between rows
- field of view of the camera
- altitude.

At 100%, there is complete visual coverage of the area with no overlap. (Assuming plane stays perfectly on course between waypoints).
At 150%, half of each row overlaps the adjoining row. This ensures complete coverage even the plane is pushed a little off course, and that photo stitching has common areas to work with.
At 200%, each row overlaps completely, so all areas are included in two photographs
At 400%, rows are so close together that all areas are included in four photographs.
Anything above 200% is probably "overkill" for most applications. |
Under 100%, visual coverage is incomplete. There are strips between rows not included in any photo. i.e. at 50% visual coverage, only half of the area to be scanned is included in photos. This might be used when you just want to sample a large area quickly. |
